Co-existance between e2k3 and e2k7 with CAS must use domain\username to redirect to e2k7 mailbox?
I am trying to figure out a work around to this scenario. We are transitioning from exchange 2k3 to 2k7. I introduced a 2k7 mailbox server and seperate cas. I can connect to the cas and access mailboxes on both 2k3 and 2k7 mailbox servers. HOWEVER, in order to be able to access mailboxes on e2k7 through owa using website.com/exchange i need to use the domain\username format as opposed to just username. I have configured the virtual folders in the exchange management console for just username and this works for the exchange 2003 mailboxes but not for the 2007 mailboxes. What am I doing wrong, or what do i need to do to make this work? Really hoping for some help on this. Thanks

How did you configure them?If you use the Set-OwaVirtualDirectory command with theDefaultDomain and the LogonFormat switches set for your domain does it work as expected?http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123515.aspx

Hi Andy, I did not use the set-owa commands. I modified the virtual directories under Client access server in exchange management console. I changed from domain\username to username only and then specified the fqdn of my domain. This works for exchange 2003 users but will not work for e2k7 users. I still need to specify the domain\username or use the upn. I did not realize I needed to use the set-owavirtualdirectory commands to make this work. Can you confirm this in fact necessary?

If you issue a get-OwaVirtualDirectory command against that server, you can see what it is set to now and you can set as necessary.

Are you able to supply me the actual command I need to set the owa virtual directory to UserName. I tried following the examples in the article you linked to but im not having any luck getting the commands functioning as I would expect. Likewise running the get-OwaVirtualDirectory command really dosent say anything other then owa = Exchange2007 and all the other virtual directories = exchange2003or2000

Under Server Configuration ->Client Access on right hand side select default OWA Go to Properties and check in the authentication TAB and let us know what is selected?Vinod

I am currently working on Exchange 2007. I am running into a same problem with users that are trying to access OWA using the
https://mycompany.com/exchange virtual directory. I have setup Basic auth on all my virtual directories and set them with correct domain. When a 2003 mailbox user authenticates they are presented
with their 2003 OWA mailbox without any problems. If a 2007 mailbox user accesses
https://mycompany.coml/exchange and use only their user name "john" they are prompted with "The user name or password that you entered is not valid. Try entering it again.". If
I use "mycompany\john" they are proxied to the /OWA virtual directory correctly and are presented with their OWA 2007 Mailbox as they should be. This is going to be a huge headache if I cannot have my users access the same URL. Here are my environment
details
O/S - Windows 2008 Enterprise edition SP2
MS Exchange 2007 SP3 (CAS and Mailbox roles are installed on different machine)
IIS-7
Could you please share with me how you have resolved this problem? Thanks and Regards, Dilip Kumar Gupta My Blogs are, http://diliptechnotes.blogspot.com/ http://dilipinexchange.blogspot.com/
